Side Channels / Light Blockers

Side channels (light blockers or side tracks) are U-shaped tracks mounted along the vertical edges of a window that the shade’s sides ride within, sealing the light gap that otherwise rings an inside-mounted shade. They’re the honest answer to “I bought blackout and my room still isn’t dark”: paired with blackout fabric, channels are what actually deliver a dark room, and on cellular shades they add insulation too. The trade-offs are a more involved install, a visible track on the window edges, and added cost, plus the option isn’t offered on every product. For serious blackout — shift workers, nurseries, media rooms — side channels or an outside mount are the parts that matter.
