Openness Factor (%)

Openness factor is the percentage of open space in a solar-screen weave, typically running 1% to 14%. It’s the defining spec of a solar shade: a lower openness (1%–3%) blocks more glare, UV, and view for better privacy and darkening; a higher openness (5%–14%) keeps a brighter, clearer view at the cost of more glare and less nighttime privacy. There’s no “best” number — it’s a trade you set for the room and the direction it faces. A 3%–5% openness is a common all-rounder for view-facing rooms. Match the number to the job, and remember none of these are private after dark.
