RF Remote / Radio Control
Most motorized shades operate over a radio-frequency (RF) remote that talks directly to the motor, no hub or internet required — a channel per shade or group, with tilt/raise/lower and often favorite positions. It’s the reliable, local baseline: it keeps working during an internet outage and doesn’t depend on a cloud service. Adding a hub layers app control, schedules, and voice on top of this RF foundation. When comparing systems, note how many channels a remote supports, whether shades can be grouped, and that the RF protocol (for example a widely used one from a major motor maker) determines which remotes and hubs are compatible. Local RF control is a feature worth valuing for its resilience.
