Lining (Blackout / Privacy / Interlining)
Lining is the fabric bonded or sewn behind a roman or drapery panel, and it does most of the real work. Privacy lining blocks the silhouette and adds body; room-darkening lining cuts most light; blackout lining passes essentially none through the fabric itself. Interlining is a soft middle layer that adds insulation, drape, and a luxe hand. The honest caveat is the same one that haunts the whole category: even a blackout lining only controls the fabric — light still escapes around an inside-mounted shade through the gap, so a truly dark room needs an outside mount or side channels too. Choose lining for the light job, mount for the seal.
